BCS is seeking Part-time Research Assistants
Business-Community Synergies (BCS) is a small, dynamic company providing specialized services in corporate-community relations to industry, non-governmental organizations and the public sector. We work with companies in the energy and extractive sectors, among others, to develop positive, mutually beneficial relationships in the communities where they work.
BCS operates through an international network of consultants who bring their extensive experience and insight to our work. We provide the following services: Community-Company Assessments (CCA), Action Research and Analysis, Training and Tools Development, and Reviews and Assessments of technical documents and community engagement strategies. BCS is looking for up to three graduate students to assist with existing projects and with business development. The Research Assistants could work at their desired locations with electronic and face-to-face communication as needed, or work from BCS’s Rockville office. Remuneration is $12-15 per hour, depending on research skills, experience and familiarity with subject matter.
Duties
- Assist with research on corporate social responsibility, social impacts of extractive industry operations and other areas as needed.
- Conduct background research on companies, industries and institutions.
- Develop fact sheets on specified topics.
- Edit reports and other documents and contribute to BCS analyses.
- Provide research and other backup support for BCS training programs.
Qualifications
- Experience or strong interest and some familiarity with oil, gas, mining or energy industries and their corporate social responsibility.
- Accurate research skills and excellent writing skills.
- Independent and able to take initiative without direct supervision. Professionalism, enterprising, ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in other locations via computer and phone.
- Strong interest in BCS’s work and in an engagement-based approach to development.
- Expertise and high familiarity with use of internet and electronic databases for research.
Preferred Qualifications
- Work experience (or other international background experience) in a developing country.
- Accurate research skills and excellent writing skills.
- Course work or experience in qualitative analysis.
- Knowledge of or fluency in French, Spanish or Portuguese.
- Experience using participatory training or participatory appraisal techniques.
