Fred Wood, Ph.D.
fwood@bcsynergies.comDr. Fred Wood is an internationally recognized expert on early childhood and youth development who has worked extensively on meeting the needs of marginal communities in the developing world through private means. He has also worked on the relationship of early childhood development programs to the process of community development in low-income countries.
Dr. Wood served for more than a decade as Deputy Executive Director and Director of Programmes at the Bernard van Leer Foundation in The Hague, The Netherlands, a pioneering organization in the demonstration of the mutual benefits of collaboration between social development and the business sector. During his tenure, he created low-cost culturally appropriate early childhood development programs in 38 countries.

Dr. Wood was a Fellow at Harvard’s Kennedy School before joining Save the Children US as Director of Education, where he served for twelve years.
Dr. Wood received his Ph.D. from the University of London. His thesis on Education and Training of Out of School Youth in Twelve African Countries was published by Mouton as _Informal Education in Africa_and based in large part of his long experience living in Uganda. He hold’s a Master’s degree in Philosophy and one in History from Aberdeen University, an Academic Diploma and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, from the University of London.
